[edit]This is from the article
- Whether right or wrong, the Home Guard was created based on the principle of 'Never again'.
- However, today it's a different Home Guard. Some important principals and politics for which the organisation was founded on has since been forgotten by many members. With the end of the Cold War these changes have become ever more visible and are clearly reflected in for example public advertisements designed to encourage enlisting and support of the Home Guard.
- The Danish population sees no need for the Home Guard to exist as an armed wing of the armed forces, although many would like to see the organisation drift into the direction of providing disaster relief, a transformation that the Home Guard is no undergoing.
- The education which can be found in the Home Guard seem very good and solid, many equalling the army, navy and air force's own training programs.
- However, statements made by members of the Home Guard, who have seen the changes that it has undergone throughout the past few decades themselves, say that recruiting is no longer based on ethical and moral values, but rather on adventure, action and excitement. This of course only helps fuel the population's strong belief that the Home Guard is not a serious armed organisation.
- Unfortunately, this once highly respected para-military organisation has itself contributed to replacing its original ethics to obtain more members, but at the cost of rumors and stories of incompetence among the public. As one member put it: "The Home Guard is not critical enough when recruiting nor informative of moral values during training". The result of such changes has given the Home Guard a reputation that differs greatly from the one that it carried nearly 60 years ago!
This is roughly where the text could be made a little more neutral; while moving, it is not encyclopedic (and the only places a "!" should appear in an encyclopedia is in the ! article or in quotations) Snapdragonfly 06:44, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
Aviation Home Guard - hmmmm...
[edit]Changed it to "Air Force Home Guard" since that is the official name for the branch when talking to foreign troops during exercises. Ref. Home Guard website.
The article bears rewriting, since current tasking has moved away from invasion defence and towards counter-terrorism and civil protection. Roidhun 08:14, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
Editing the "un-neutral" part of the text
[edit]I agree... the part above that has been cut out was not 100% objective. The present history of the Home Guard on wikipedia.org is just fine as it is now.
