Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dotcommunism
Appearance
Aside from a mention in a single Wired article [1] this neologism doesn't seem to have much currency. There are other hits on Google but with wildly differing usage. I also don't like the way the article claims that Wikipedia is an example of a site that believes in dotcommunism. (??!!) --LeeHunter 01:09, 30 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Delete, the above was incorrectly added on aug 30, 2004, and was not listed in vfds of that day. -Vina 07:37, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Delete - Other terms already exist to describe free content on the internet, these are more frequently used, this is a very POV article, --Matthewdikmans 07:48, Sep 4, 2004 (UTC)
- Well, it's one term. I'd be delighted if Wikipedia were one, but that's not the point. The early GNU folks were, indeed, envisioning something along the lines of this, but, well, that seems all gone, and people prefer other terms. Abstain, because I can't think of where this would be better redirected. As soon as someone does, I'm sure I'll hop on the bandwagon. Geogre 13:03, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- keep While it is obvious (to me) that someone is just making up words (neologism) I think this concept needed a word to describe it. This has more notability than lots of other entries here that are not on VfD. KeyStroke

- Delete neologism. Whether or not the culture ought to have such a word, Wikipedia should have no role in creating it. We are creating an encyclopedia, not a news service or a dictionary. Rossami 13:18, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Delete - made up - which is a reason to delete and not a reason to keep it - Tεxτurε 23:57, 8 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Del, for precisely Rossami's reasons. --Jerzy(t) 04:00, 2004 Sep 9 (UTC)
- Keep I created this article after hearing on CNN that it was one of the new words being added to this year's addition of some major dictionary... If I could only remember which one! As for Wikipedia, didn't the creators believe in providing a free encyclopedia for everyone? The day when they'll be popups on this site that invite me to premium pay service, or when I'll only get half-articles for free, I'll believe that Wikipedia is not an example of dotcommunism. Interestingly enough my Mac OS X built-in spell check recognizes dot-communism. I know that I didn't make this up, someone else did. In any case, it is simply disputed whether it should be "dotcommunism," "dot-communism," or "dot communism." Google (btw a made-up adjective) any of these, especially the later two and you'll find hundreds of articles using this phrase. newkai 05:40, 9 Sep 2004 (UTC)
