Hey, Welcome to Wikipedia. As for the copyright, if you want to write something, write it in the temp link off that page. The main page needs to be deleted due to the copyright violation. Then whatever is written in the temp page will be moved into the main article space. Don't worry, somebody will clean out the copy vio page eventually. Burgundavia 22:03, Jun 17, 2004 (UTC)
Wikinews demo up and running
[edit]Hi!
I'm writing to let you know that the Wikimedia Board of Trustees has approved the first stage of the Wikinews project. There's now a fully operational English demo site at demo.wikinews.org. This will be used for experimenting with various review models and basic policies before the site is launched officially in about a week. demo.wikinews.org will become the English version later.
You voted for the Wikinews project, so I'm asking for your participation now. Everything is open, nothing is final. What Wikinews will and can be depends in large part on you. There already is a global Wikinews mailing list for discussing the project. If you are interested at all, please subscribe -- coordination is of key importance. There's also an IRC channel #wikinews on irc.freenode.net. Realtime discussion can help to polish up articles.
If you're looking for something to do, check out the articles in development and articles in review. Or start a new story in the Wikinews workspace, or ignore the proposed review system - it's up to you. I hope you'll join us soon in this exciting experiment.--Eloquence* 01:58, Nov 17, 2004 (UTC)

[edit]I've noticed that you are part of a Wikipedian FIRSTers category. May I suggest adding the {{User FIRST}} userbox to your page? That will add you to another category of FIRST members that is a bit bigger. Jared W 18:51, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Maxthon.png)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Maxthon.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. —Remember the dot (talk) 22:42, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for File:ArtPrize.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:ArtPrize.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:19, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

The article Common experiments has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Not an encyclopedic topic.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. SummerPhD (talk) 17:15, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Innovation First, Inc
[edit]You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.
Thank you.
A tag has been placed on Innovation First, Inc, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item G11, as well as the guidelines on spam.
If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the article's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. The Mark of the Beast (talk) 23:35, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
Regarding User:Astronouth7303/Innovation First
[edit]Hi,
I've had a look at the references provided at the moment.
Here is my analysis of them:
- References:
- BusinessWeek Company Information
- This would be basically from the company's information. As such, it would not generally be considered independent (although BusinessWeek is independent, they are republishing information available from other sources which basically comes from the company - the personnel etc); it is also not 'significant coverage'
- Robotics Trends
- This appears to be a press release. If that is indeed the case, then it is not independent, as it comes straight from the company. If it is not directly quoting a press release, it is heavily based on one.
- BusinessWeek Company Information
- Potential Sources:
- Business Wire publish press releases - this is directly from the company, and so not independent
- http://eon.businesswire.com/news/eon/20110803005438/en/HEXBUG/toy/kids
- Another Business Wire one - not independent
- http://www.dallasnews.com/business/technology/20091207-Innovation-First-of-Greenville-ready-to-5293.ece
- This looks good! It certainly can be used as a source for an article.
- This is basically a link by the reporter to the main article (which is the previous source mentioned), and doesn't really add anything to it. As such, it wouldn't count as another "source"
- Again, a press release from the company, so not independent.
- This is from a press release ("May 11th, 2010 - 05:02 am ET by Business Wire") so not independent.
I like the Dallas News one (while noting that the blog entry can't count as a source itself, as it adds nothing to the article, but points to the article).
However, the notability guidelines refer to requiring multiple reliable, independent sources, which have significant coverage.
At the moment, the sources do not meet that standard - most of them are press releases, and you have one source which would be adequate. Also, most of the information in the article is not mentioned by that source, so you'll need to find sources which are not press releases ("wire") or directly on the company's website. They also can't be in "shop" sites - you ideally need mention of the products in the press etc, but where a press release is not directly the source!
Hope this helps,
Regards, PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 05:30, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. Most of that article is based on what I know and common knowledge. I've asked for help on it. I'll see what I can dig out. --Astronouth7303 (talk) 07:28, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
- No worries! Unfortunately, what you know and common knowledge are not sufficient - there needs to be verifiable sources. I'll keep an eye on it and see how you are getting on, but there isn't an indefinite time that it can remain here without suitable sources. Good luck with finding sources, so that we can keep the article! PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 07:37, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for uploading File:ArtPrize.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. File:OpenFIRST screenshot.PNG needs authorship information
[edit]The media file you uploaded as File:OpenFIRST screenshot.PNG appears to be missing information as to one (or more) of the following :
- The author or creators of the work, (including information as to the author's lifespan).
- Where and how this particular version was obtained.
- When the work was created,
If you did provide such information, it is currently confusing for others trying to make use of the image.
It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.
Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).
- If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which:
{{subst:usernameexpand|Astronouth7303}}
will produce an appropriate expansion,
or use the {{own}} template.
Please also add authorship and sourcing to other files you created or uplopaded. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.
