[edit]"This is a stub with a disproportionately large photo. Someone familiar with the religious art or with Chinese buddhism should write a paragraph giving a brief history of the statue, including its transliterated Chinese name. The photograph should be smaller, in accordance with the landmark's importance among religious statues on the planet and among statues of Buddha in particular. This is an area studies and/or art history article. GCW"
Should I write a brief life history of Siddhartha Gautama?
Do you have photo of Tian Tan Buddha taken by yourselves?
If the photo is from the government's press release will there be any copyright problem?
Hello, I have a few photographs of the statue that I took when I was there a few weeks ago. anthropax
I don't know how to move the pic back to the zone for 'Feature'.May you give me a favour
I think suitable amount of linebreak can make the paragraph more clear. Isn't it? Since there is a lot of topics. Grouping of related subtropic may make the whole paragraph more clear to read and follow.
Mainland China
[edit]If Mainland China = China - Taiwan and the SAR, then if the SAR and Taiwan are included in the list of dignitaries then WHY is Mainland China supposed to be MORE accurate than the phrase "all of China" ?!! SchmuckyTheCat 02:58, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- The problem is that this paragraph is effectively contrasting "China" and "Taiwan". We don't want to take a stand on whether Taiwan is or isn't part of China. --MarkSweep 05:04, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- It says nothing about the political status of Taiwan. Taiwan is a geographical term in this context, which has been avoiding named states. SchmuckyTheCat 02:08, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Mentioning both "China" and "Taiwan" in the same sentence implies that Taiwan is definitely not part of China, which is POV. It's a bit like saying "dignitaries from the United Kingdom and Scotland were in attendance". --MarkSweep 06:51, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit]i redirected po lin monastery to here. There will never be enough information about the monastery to deserve it's own entry. without the buddha and holy artifacts inside, the monastery is not even noticable.
Wrong Information
[edit]"A gondola lift, the Ngong Ping Skyrail between Tung Chung and Ngong Ping, provides another means of access."
This lift is long out of operation due to an accident. Jon914 07:46, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- Not necessarily wrong. Though it may be out of service now, it is expected to resume service in the future and will continue to service the Monastery. Luke! 17:34, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- At a minimum, there should be mention that this service is suspended indefinitely due to the incident. Also just coming in today incidentally is the fact that their 20-year contract just got torn up, so it's going to be a while before this comes back. See the portal front page for that source. Jon914 08:27, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
- It seems there're arguments right now about when the service will resume. But it'll unlikely be resumed within the next several months I think. Do we wait till the dust settles with the controversy and there's a more definite timeline on when the service will resume? Or do we mention something in this article right now? Vague?
[edit]Someone has marked the weight of the Kamakura Buddha at 124 tons as vague. What does that someone want? Down to the exact pound and ounce? Caeruleancentaur (talk) 13:53, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
- That someone probably wants it specified whether that's metric or short tons, rather than wanting exact pounds and ounces. 87.80.97.137 (talk) 17:13, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Gautama or Amitabha Buddha?
[edit]The current article seems to be vague in regards to which Buddha the statue is an image of. In the first paragraph, it says that the statue is "is a large bronze statue of the Buddha" with Buddha linked to Gautama_Buddha. To me, the use of the phrase "the buddha" rather than "a buddha" and the link to Gautama Buddha imply that the statue represents Gautama/Shakyamuni Buddha. But then further down it says "Like the Daibutsu in Kamakura, Japan, the Tian Tan Buddha is an image of Amitabha Buddha." So which is it? Gautama or Amitabha Buddha? This would be helpful to mention in the first paragraph. Echalon (talk) 13:50, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
what about the Ushiku Buddha 120 metres tall?
[edit]the Ushiku Buddha is 120 metres tall, isnt that the biggest in the world? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Payneham (talk • contribs) 02:22, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
No such thing as "Tian Tan Buddha"
[edit]Hongkongers only refer the statue as "the Big Buddha" or "tʰiːn⁵⁵ tʰɑːn²¹ tɑːi̯²² fɐt̚²". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vc06697 (talk • contribs) 04:39, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
I have reverted the edit in the article, which makes nonsense of the explanation of the name in the next section. The editor gives no reference and does not even know how to sign his name. Mzilikazi1939 (talk) 05:25, 23 March 2017 (UTC)

Offering of the Six Devas
[edit]Should there be a standalone article for the Offering of the Six Devas? Not sure if there's enough sourcing and detail to justify a separate article. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:06, 1 December 2017 (UTC)
Some suggestions that should be made on this article is to add some pictures on the top of the header. The article also needs to have a dimension header of the buddha so we know how big it is for the viewers. This can be an additional of the width, length, and structures of the Buddha. Jessicahnguyen 29 (talk) 01:04, 7 October 2018 (UTC)
- Jessicahnguyen 29, some details could be added to the infobox.--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 06:58, 7 October 2018 (UTC)
