who loves him?
[edit](many people but again American culture apparently extends not too far one can observe)
Uhm, does somebody wanna put him in the fashion category and remember he is German and worked on more advertisements than a grand majority of Americans can know about. He did not do "fetish photography" he only made millions want to see such things. Since he shot a lot for Vogue I guess Vogue is a fetish magazine as well. *Shakes head* Some people.
- He's still not half as bad as someone like Andres Serrano. I'm not a Christian, in fact, I'm an atheist. But photographing a crucifix submerged in his urine? How revolting can one be? It almost makes one question freedom of expression. Remember, "almost" doesn't count. 66.108.144.49 19:04, 6 October 2006 (UTC) Allen Roth
Re: Andres Serrano - it's off topic here, but check out the Vatican Museum's own purchase 'Mutiliated Christ'. It's not the image that offends people, it's the meaning behind it. If Andres Serrano was a devout Catholic I doubt that his works would be controversial at all. Mike MacCana
German American?
[edit]He did spent over two very formative decades in Australia photographing the Paris end of Collins St (see the NGV website) and he was an Australian citizen. I wouldn't claim he's Australian, but I wouldn't claim he's 'German-American' either. Mike MacCana
German Australian
[edit]Quite right. After assuming Australian nationality, he remained an Australian citizen for the rest of his life. He was however, the very definition of a 'Citizen of the World'. Sean Payne.
- Except he didn't assume "Australian citizenship". In 1946 he couldn't have, because such a beast did not exist until 26 January 1949. Prior to then, Australians were born British subjects, and that's what Newton became in 1946. Only in 1949 did his status then change, along with all other Australians, to "Australian citizen". -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 10:23, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
