Macrons in the title of the page
[edit]I was under the impressions that macrons were not used in the titles of pages. Maybe this is outdated, though? // Habj 02:00, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- We discussed it thoroughly at Wikipedia Talk:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles) and the consensus was to use macrons. Fg2 07:38, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for the link - I will keep it. I can not see that discussion specifically mentions page titles, though. The least you can do is make a redirect from the version without macron, which I have done here. // Habj 08:56, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- It's all in the archives --- #15 or 16 or both or more; we've debated it up, down and all around. Regarding redirects, the easy way is to initiate the article with the title without macrons, and in the first line write it with macrons (e.g. using Template:nihongo). Then copy the spelling with macrons to the clipboard, and rename (or in Wikipedia dialect, "move") the article. Paste the name from the clipboard into the new title box. Renaming a page automatically makes the old page a redirect. (But you probably knew all that.) Fg2 12:08, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Nakamise-dori
[edit]Doesn't Nakamise-dori mean something like "street of the central shops"? If so, please add the gloss to the section. --Error (talk) 16:36, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- No. It is 仲見世通り, which translates to "The road of the inside". ”中店通り”would mean central shop street. JthomasP (talk) 03:28, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
