Trivia & Pop Culture References
[edit]I would like to understand why this information about the show has been removed? Granted, a number of the references were obscure ones, however it's important to understand the impact this show (or any other TV program for that matter) has had on other aspects of TV, movies, etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.38.133.106 (talk) 15:08, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- umm it's called trivia precisely because it's not important. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.125.110.223 (talk) 21:41, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
- I can't say I know why it was removed, but trivia sections, while not forbidden, are discouraged on Wikipedia. If you believe information that appeared in that section benefits the article, you could add it back by incorporating it into the main article. Hope this helps! Looks to me as if the "Legacy" section is almost the same thing as a trivia section.2602:306:BDC0:CF90:DA0:AF97:7C8A:D19 (talk) 18:24, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
- @2602:306:BDC0:CF90:DA0:AF97:7C8A:D19: Wikipedia does not do Trivia, this is an Encyclopedia. Mlpearc (open channel) 18:41, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
- I keep adding to the Legacy/Pop Culture section the fact that the 1991 movie "City Slickers" pays homage to Bonanza by having a scene where the City Slickers, now turned cowboys, bring in the heard and ride three abreast across a pasture dum-da-da-dumming the Bonanza theme and it keeps getting removed. Does anybody know why? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.115.119.6 (talk) 20:51, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
- No, I'm sure we don't know why you keep adding barely relevant trivia to the article when it's been explained that trivia is discouraged. I've done a once-over of this section, and while I question the need for such a thing when it will inevitably become a cruft-dump, if it is to remain it must illustrate an actual legacy and not simply be a list of every minor incident in which a character mentions or parodies the show. [edit]turkıyedene zaman yayınlandı acaba ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.169.193.30 (talk) 11:36, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- According to this article, Bonanza was first broadcast in Turkey on state television in the 1970s. Bonanza 1970'lerde devlet televizyonunda Türkiye'de yayınlandı. 69.118.147.21 (talk) 05:01, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
Hoss' Hat?
[edit]Whether Dan Blocker's character's hat was "ten gallon" or not is debatable, it is simply an open-crown. Many more cowhands of the 1860's wore these or the Montana Peak than the smaller rolled brims. These didn't come out until later, and were far more popular in colder, rainy climates than Nevada. The smaller rolled brim hats are more mid-twentieth century. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.231.189.108 (talk) 17:32, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
According to an article I read many years ago, Blocker was looking in the wardrobe department of Paramount Pictures for a hat and spotted the open crown hat. The hat had been worn by Bob Hope in one of his movies (Paleface or Fancy Pants?). 2602:306:BDC0:CF90:7006:8714:F3B2:584E (talk) 20:29, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
- Seems that Hopes' hats are too exaggerated to be Hoss' Mlpearc (open channel) 20:51, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
Syntax Errors
[edit]Third sentence of first paragraph indicates that Bonanza "centers around ..." You can't center around anything. You can center on or you can revolve around.
- absent lyrics?
Name
[edit]The name is pushed so hard in ep 2 "He came here for his...BONANZA", "Many a man gets by, but few find a true...BONANZA" -- stuff like that 3 or 4 different times. Makes me wonder whether the pilot went out under a different name.
Moreover, in one of the DVD extras, Dortort states that he almost named the series "Pan-a-mint".
One way or the other, did the name somehow not settle down until episode 2? 209.172.23.164 (talk) 05:10, 25 June 2016 (UTC)
'3rd Rock from the Sun' reference
[edit]I have yet to 'nail down' the episode, but at one point, characters Dick, Tommy, and Harry are driving west to rescue Sally somewhere near the impending Super Bowl in San Diego. A shot of a USA map burns from a single point as does the map in the Bonanza opening sequence. Perhaps someone else might enter this before I find the details. - - RayBirks (talk) 14:32, 22 February 2019 (UTC)
- Found it ! In Season 3, Episodes 14 & 15, entitled "36! 24! 36! Dick," the car scene and map burning occur (Episode 15).
Top 10 removal
[edit]I removed the reference to the show being in the top 10 longest-running US series by way of future-proofing. I'm not sure when the line was written but in recent years a number of series have equalled, are coming close to equalling, or have surpassed Bonanza's longevity (such as NCIS, Grey's Anatomy, Law and Order SVU, and so on). It's conceivable Bonanza might end up dropping off the Top 10 list if it hasn't already. 23skidoo (talk) 16:19, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
Horses
[edit]It might be interesting to add more information about the horses and other animals they used in the show, and how they had to be cared for. Then again, the article is already lengthy, so that info might not be necessary. It would be neat to see though.--FloatingLarGibbon (talk) 00:58, 4 March 2023 (UTC)
