Very good job on El Lissitzky! I read on Peer Review you were playing with the idea of submitting it to FAC; by all means do so! I am a WP:FAC regular and I'm certain the nomination will pass. The only criticism the article as it is now is likely to receive is that the lead section is a bit short for an article of such length: it should give a better overview of the entire article. Nikon F5 digital back?

You altered Leica R8 stating that there was a digital back for the Nikon F5, so the Leica wasn't the only one. Could you elaborate? If this is the case, perhaps the Nikon F5 article should mention it?

Are you talking about the F5s that Kodak modified into digital cameras? These were not sold as a separate "digital back" though, but as one piece as a Kodak product, the DCS Pro 600 and 700 series. They did still say 'Nikon' on the prism, of course.

I'd personally say these do not qualify as digital backs since they were not user-installable to a F5, and I'm not sure that the F5s so modified were identical to a standard F5 - in other words, could you remove the digital back, install a Nikon film back, and have a working, complete F5? I'd say they probably had at least a few other components missing. Modified film cameras converted into digital don't in my experience get called 'digital backs', that tending to be reserved for user-installable components.

I was talking about the Kodak one, yes. You sound much more capable of judging if it technically qualifies as a digitial back or not, I just assumed it was because it replaced the original back, although, I agree, it did so in a way that might not be so comparable to the digital back for the Leica. I think I'll put some info under Nikon F5 about those Kodaks, and perhaps I should qualify the statement at Leica R8 that we're talking about user-installable backs. Also need to write articles on more of those groundbreaking Kodak DSLR conversions - pretty much all of them were remarkably high-end for the time. Thanks! Solzhenitsyn

Nice of you to keep track on the Solzhenitsyn article: he's certainly a guy who attracts POVs and I knew when I read the text it could use some revision. My work on him was really a spin-off of revising the Gulag Archipelago article which was truly stuffed with some politically charged and wildly overstated comments ("the publication of the book immediately blew up the Communist parties of Western Europe", "the camps were unknown to the West" etc) I don't think an article about the Archipelago of this kind can be written completely without any subjective statements, but at least one can make the reader aware of where they are.

I'm going to follow up with an article about S' epic The Red Wheel in not too long a time.

I checked out your changes to the Gulag Archipelago article and I definitely agree that they're for the best. I was looking sadly at that article a while ago but couldn't get motivated to improve it, its really good you came along. While we are on the subject, you might be interested to check out the article that I'm working on now and that I'm trying to get approved for FA status. See Kengir uprising and Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Kengir uprising. If there is anything you can do to help out on that article, including just giving it a once-over and making sure I didn't misstate anything, it'd be greatly appreciated, especially now that it's under review. Also, you wouldn't happen to know any other major sources that deal with the uprising, would you? Currently one of the main objections to the article is that its primarily sourced from one book, the Gulag Archipelago.

No, I'm a Canadian and not of Scandinavian descent, I just love Andersson and other Scandinavian directors. Ever since I saw Andersson's "Something Has Happened" I've been pretty infatuated with his work and work like it. I actually just watched it again a few days ago and could hardly believe how good it is. I adore his approach and deadpan sense of humour. Roy is brilliant, and his commercials are great too; they show up the same black humour as Songs from the Sécond Floor. If you've seen Lars von Trier's tv series The Kingdom (not easy to get in America) it's in the same vein, even more charming. I feel Roy is really of an older generation, most younger tv/movie comics in Sweden don't have this dark, daredevil bite, but he's inspiring the kids.

I put in a draft article on The Red Wheel, will expand it later. The final paragraph is POV of course, but I feel this is justified within limits when it's a Nobel prize winning writer and it's obviously, to the reader, a subjective opinion. Yes his commercials are fantastic. I saw a collection of them a few years ago at the local art theatre and they really blew me, and everyone else there, away. The one commercial that I particularly enjoyed (and if you've seen it and can help me identify it I'd be ecstatic) was an ad in support of some political party and against a more laissez faire capitalism that just showed a little series of instances of ruthlessness and selfishness (a guy who dropped something on the floor in a busy walkway and everyone else just kicking his belongings around indifferently, for instance) that was really hilarious. But I didn't know that Andersson wasn't so indicative of the whole and that his style of humour was as relatively unique as that within Scandinavia. I certainly hoped it wasn't.

I'll check out that article on the Red Wheel and add what I can, but it looks good now. How much of his work have you read? Most? I've read only a handful and haven't touched that series yet, but intend to. --Clngre 23:08, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

The campaign short feature is Någonting har hänt (World of glory), he shot it for the socialists in time for the 1991 parliamentary elections (which they lost). It's got really dark scenes: the pick-up car that's stuffed full with helpless/naked people and then driven away like a cattle-train to a prison camp, wasn't it even pumped full of car exhaust gases to kill the people inside? We're in for the next elections in three weeks time, and it's very uncertain but could well be a watershed, confidence in politics here is at an all-time low and the campaign has been very media-ridden, sluggish and not really taking off in people's minds. I wish someone would make as daring a movie as Roy did in '91. I don't know who to vote for either, the Socialists seem to be half-rotten with power and the prime minister (who effectively is the government: we need to change that) looks ready for retirement, the alternatives on the liberal/right-wing side are hazy and seem to harbour a big bunch of career-hunters and some really hardcore libertarians. It's a bit like France in 2002 (when le Pen rocketed to the final round). Happily, ther's no real risk of an overtly xenophobic party entering the parliament but a lot of other things could happen.

I should have clarified; I'm familiar with World of Glory and have seen it a few times (but I had no idea it was also for a political party). What I'm talking about is a 30 second television commercial. It actually might have been a part of the same campaign so I think this is a good starting point for my search for it. By the way, have you seen, and if so what did you think of, A Swedish Love Story?

I follow a lot of international news and everything but I know absolutely zero about Sweden's present domestic political situation. The scenario you recounted does certainly sound familiar though. I don't know how much you follow Canadian politics (haha), but there was a similar situation last election, where there was a choice between a flaky opposition party and somewhat corrupt ruling party. Apathy reigned pretty heavily on that one. I'd always suggest getting involved and voting, though, and I'd personally err on the side of the left rather than the right. And value your proportional representation! I wish Canada had that but unfortunately we don't and we're definitely all the worse for it.

You've read much more than myself but I definitely share your enthusiasm for him. I've only read the Gulag Archipelago (at 1800 pages maybe I shouldn't say "only"), a collection of short stories (including Incident at ...), One Day in the Life, and I just finished The Love-Girl and the Innocent, which was really enjoyable. About World of Glory, it's fifteen years ago so I vaguely remember that campaign but I guess the longer film wasn't part of the actual campaign, it was done about the same time and shares some of the imagery; I think it was really part of some joint project of "commenting the times". But you're right about the shorties I think, Roy did a number of shorts for the Socialists and I'm almost positive that was in '91, the scene with the man who slumps to the floor would have belonged there and I remember the image (thanks for the youtube link! The frying-pan ad is new to me, hilarious bitch...)

Haven't seen A Swedish Love Story so far but it's a real classic.

A few years ago a now defunct morning paper made an outrageous printing blooper when they had an article about an expo on Roy Andersson's work (it was up the country so I didn't find the time to go) and the same day, another piece in the paper, on another spread, discussed Danish cinema and the dogma film movement. Beside the Roy article they meant to have a still photo from Giliap and got at least the caption right: "Thommy Berggren played the morose waiter in Giliap"

The picture above wasn't quite that: it was a famous still from Nicolaus Winding Refn's noir thriller Pusher with Kim Bodnia staring right up and thrusting two pistols, one in each clenched hand, toward his antagonist. :-D I don't recall what happened next to the Danish movies article.

I'm fluent in French and English, have found some work as a translator, and I'm decent at German (no problem reading German books, less sure in writing it myself) I'm trawling through some mail and other stuff and downloading a movie, which is why I'm up at 4 in the morning. Beirut marine barracks attack

There are only two types of attacks in the world. Acts of war and terrorist attacks. Acts of war can only be committed by recognized nations. The rest are terrorist attacks by default.

Please by all means explain this third type of attack that you promulgated on that page 10yrs ago.

I'm also really curious as to what motivation folks would have to feel a need to invent some brand new third type of attack in an effort to not call this a terrorist attack.

Otherwise keep up the great work. World needs more folks saying YES, YES, YES to stuff that doesn't even exist.
