[edit]I wonder if you liked the prose enough? Bilac is my favourite poet.
Is there any chance I will see a link for this page in the main Wikipedia page in a few days, in Bilac´s anniversary? - Doidimais Brasil
Doidimais: What exactly do you mean by "Bilac was chased during the government of Floriano Peixoto"? Was he forced into exile? Did he flee the country? Was he persecuted (badgered, hounded, harassed) by the govt? What exactly did Floriano do to him? Oh, and the translations on /sources/ -- are they yours? Curious, –Hajor 19:45, 7 Dec 2003 (UTC)
I was also wondering what "chased" means here. And while I appreciate that Bilac is your favorite poet, NPOV means that we need to say who--other than Wikipedians--thinks so highly of him.
I can't really read Portuguese (I sort of fake it based on Spanish) but it looks as though at least some of his poetry was considered part of Modernism. Am I reading this right? If so, that would be worth adding to the article. Vicki Rosenzweig 01:51, 10 Dec 2003 (UTC)

About chasing: Bilac was considered a political troublemaker for a time, and an arrest order was made by Peixoto. Bilac spent a few months in jail, but for about a year he hid in a house of a friend on another state.
About Modernism: sorry, not at all. Bilac died on 1918, exactly the time in which Modernism was starting in Brazil. in 1922, when there was a major event called "Semana de Arte Moderna", Bilac was one of the most heavily criticized authors by the Modernists. Modernists wanted freedom and free poetry, wihtout worrying about rhymes and metre. Bilac was a MASTER at doing poems with SEVERE caution for rhymes and metre, and wrote almost ways in sonnets- a Modernist´s nightmare. Doidimais Brasil 16:57, Dec 13, 2003 (UTC)
Bilac was a Parnassian. He did have a school: but this school wasn´t even on Wikipedia, it was I that added it. The study of Parnasianism is mandatory on Brazilian highschools; I had no idea it wasn´t very well-known in the international community. Doidimais Brasil 17:00, Dec 13, 2003 (UTC)
Hajor, yes, the translations are mine. Doidimais Brasil 17:05, Dec 13, 2003 (UTC)

I think it would be preferable to say he was "pursued." Cats chase mice. Police pursue their prey. I have edited accordingly, adding your new material. David Hoag 22:21, 22 July 2005 (UTC)
It is indeed adequate; thanks =) Doidimais Brasil 02:36, August 11, 2005 (UTC).
