German for Byzantine Egypt I think.
I'm fairly sure that it is German for the "Byzantine Empire". If I'm wrong, correct it.

Wow!

How can Aspar who lived c. 400 – 471 to have a 2nd son "Ermanaric" who died 376 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nix1129 (talkcontribs) 09:57, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Teacher of Theodoric?

[edit]

"Aspar was the teacher of Theodoric the Great, who later became King of the Ostrogoths."

This passage was removed because I agreed with the commentator who wrote "p.32 of Wolfram does not speak of Theodoric's education. p. 262-263 does, but does not mention any part played by Aspar (and the endnote to the section n. 109 states that nothing is known about those years. Jordanes (Getica, 271, 282) only states that he was a hostage for 10 years in Constantinople. In fact, the Anonymi Valesiani (pars posterior 12.61-62, 14.79) and Procopius (History of the Wars V.I.27-28) suggests the king was illiterate, although these sources had an anti-Gothic bias, they demonstrate that the king's education was far from certain". If you have other ideas, please discuss.
