Company names, categories & templates
[edit]There is a bit of work to do here. I think the best idea is to have a article for the "exact" name of the company and then create a redirect to the more common name (if there is one). SimonLyall 04:00, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
- Hi Simon. I created a new category Category:Companies traded on the New Zealand Stock Exchange to cover off those companies listed on New Zealand Stock Exchange so that it conforms to Wikipedia International standard of listed public companies. This also meant that those listings will now show under the international master category. I have also made a stock ticker template Template:Nzx that people can now associate stock symbol next to publicly listed NZ companies.
- In regards to your suggestion about redirects I think using creating the article with proper legal names would be preferrable as a lot of multinational companies (i.e. AMP) will create subsidary companies in NZ such as AMP NZ Office Limited which are independant business units from parent company (and some cases such companies carry on different business activities) and therefore in most cases would warrant separate articles in Wikipedia. For example I created an article for AFFCO Holdings Limited which I know have business interests overseas and some of those minor businesses as such may include the name AFFCO but I think it would be wrong to redirect the common name of AFFCO to a minor business under the parent umbrella (in the case where the parent company isn't wikified yet - and there is a lot of missing articles for businesses). As another example Fonterra is a well-enough known business name in NZ, but a lot of people don't know there are companies under that umbrella with names such as Fonterra Brands and Fonterra Investments etc, that are very different business and in most cases independant business units, so perhaps there is a case to be made for having redirects go to the parent company, which in turn lists companies under their umbrella and links off to articles from there?
- I also started to change business listings for those public companies with the Infobox found on American companies and wondered what you people thought - refer Fonterra and AFFCO Holdings Limited. --Tom Webb 19:30, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
Template can automatically add category
[edit]The {{asx}} and {{nyse}} templates automatically add the category to them. I see that when created, so did {{nzx}}, but only for an hour. Any reason to not add the category automatically? --Scott Davis Talk 04:24, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- When I created the {{nzx}} template I made it so that it when a company uses the template then it is automatically added to just the List of Companies traded on the New Zealand Stock Exchange and therefore they would also automatically be added upstream to those listed companies internationally. Your newly added ANZ listing is still showing. I think from your post that you are suggesting that the template be modified to automatically added NZX companies to the great List of NZ Companies? I can look to modify the template if that is wanted by others here. Regards Tom Webb 04:44, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- I manually added Category:Companies traded on the New Zealand Stock Exchange to the bottom of ANZ. It didn't join the category just by having {{nzx}} at the top. The other two don't need to be explicit at the bottom. --Scott Davis Talk 06:30, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
Rules
[edit]Where might I find the rules for inclusion / exclusion of a company in this list. I notice, for example, no mention of ANZ Bank yet there is a listing for the Bank of New Zealand, a subsidiary of an Australian bank (ANZ is an Australian Bank).
No mention of Westpac, National Bank of New Zealand. New Zealand Forest Products, New Zealand Motor Corporation . . .
Why is this list here? Thanks, Eddaido (talk) 09:03, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
- Now we have a new addition called The Story Hub which is apparently a few months old and makes podcasts about religious matters. Does this fit with the chosen topic? Eddaido (talk) 23:03, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
