"Skeptic Joe Nickell"

[edit]

Why are the speculations of "Skeptic Joe Nickell" included in the body text of this biographical article? He did not at all figure in the personal life of his subject, did he? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.227.234.55 (talk) 23:27, 25 December 2011 (UTC) Fully agree. Nickell's book looks like the usual sensationalist collection of "everything you believed about prominent people is wrong, and I alone know the truth, about Bierce, Kennedy's murder and the fake moon landing". Mentioning it in a footnote as an outlying opinion is all that is warranted. Scholarly consensus is very firmly on the side of Bierce having traveled to Mexico, and the main body of any Wiki article should always represent the current state of research, not some esoteric hack-work some would-be editot recently read by chance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.77.218.44 (talk) 14:06, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, this section should be removed, especially from the post-lead text. Nickell is in no way an author or Bierce scholar of repute and his theories on Bierce’s disappearance shouldn’t be represented, at least not so prominently in the article. Hobomok (talk) 17:07, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
